MESSAGE NOTES

Key Scripture Genesis 9:8-17

1. God Regretted That He Created Man Genesis.6:5-7

Genesis 6:8 “But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord"

"Favor" is the Old Testament's word for "grace,"

  • God loves His creation. He offered His "favor" to everyone, but they rejected it
  • Noah positioned himself to receive God’s grace.
  • His righteousness didn’t earn God's favor, but positioned Noah to receive it
  • He responded to God's grace, for himself & his family
  • Noah built his Ark for a hundred years in the face of ridicule & rejection
  • For a hundred years Noah did all he could to warn others

2. Did the Flood really happen?

  • There are fossil deposits around the world.
  • Two hundred & thirteen different flood traditions have been found in cultures from all over the world record a universal flood of cataclysmic proportions.
  • Noah’s Ark was exactly the right proportions to surviving such an event.
  • And the Flood was clearly divine in origin & end
  • If God created & ended the Flood, He could have superintended all that transpired in connection with it.

3. Why a Flood?

Consider these Five Facts:

  • Humanity was given an opportunity to accept his grace. Noah was a "preacher of righteousness" to the world for the century he spent building the Ark.
  • Death is inevitable for sinners, whether it comes "naturally" or by divine intervention.
  • The Flood isn’t the only time God was forced to send his judgment against sinners.
  • Those who refuse to accept such judgment must obviously reject the doctrine of Hell.

Conclusion: What can we learn from this tragedy?

  • The Flood warns us against sin & its consequences.
  • God will never end humanity in this way again.
  • While the earth will not be destroyed by flood, it will come to its end one day.
  • We must be ready today.
